artist spotlight

Blackwater Folk Art

Meet Pam Mitchell and Gracie Exline, a mother & daughter team from Milton, Florida. Their small cottage industry began with a few paint brushes and some reclaimed hurricane debris. Pretty soon they were turning tin trash into whimsical decor that can be used inside or outside. Every sign is one of a kind and painted by hand. The rust, random nail holes and dents are all part of the charm of these recycled sayings.

Enjoy 15% off their pieces NOW through July on the website AND at both the stores. Click on the link above to view the products we have available on-line.

words to live by

I was rich, if not in money, in sunny hours and summer days, and spent them lavishly.

-Thoreau

I’ve always loved this quote… especially how Thoreau uses the word lavishly. It paints such a delicious picture.

review

Teitur

A lovely little laid back ditty that yearns for the simpler times of Louis Armstrong’s era. (click on the link to hear this little ditty.)

A review reads, "Following much in the shadow of other popular Scandinavian artists, Teitur writes beautiful sweeping lyrics that are sung with a free spirited, quiet nature. They're the kind of songs you would find on in your car as you drive down a country lane in the middle of spring. This feeling continues through much of the album."

savvy gift ideas

Poo-pourri $9.95

Plan on spending a weekend up north with friends or family? Don’t forget to bring this magical potion that’ll help the bathroom stay smelling citrusy fresh!

Poo-pourri is a blend of all natural essential oils that virtually eliminate bathroom odors. Unlike most air fresheners that try to mask odor, patent-pending Poo-pourri is designed to be sprayed directly onto the toilet bowl water BEFORE you use the bathroom.

The all natural essential oil secret formula creates a film on the toilet water surface, effectively trapping embarrassing odors. Flushing releases the odor neutralizing formula into the air leaving the bathroom citrus fresh.

I think this makes an original and very useful hostess gift. It’s also bound to bring on the laughs at a wedding shower and makes a great addition to any college bound care package.

show and tell

Thanks for coming out to our big sidewalk sale and enjoying the festivities of the Berkley Art Bash. It was a fantastic success!

To celebrate catching fireflies winning BEST GIFT SHOP, the gals and I kicked up our heels at the oh-so-fancy HOUR Magazine Best of Detroit Party. (click on the link to watch us get our groove thing on)

Catching fireflies has been busy buzzing around the local papers this June including a Poo-pourri mention in the Observer Eccentric, accolades for our green efforts in the Oakland Business Review and we were voted BEST GIFT SHOP & BEST UNIQUE SHOP in theBest of the Best in the Daily Tribune.

Thank You * Thank You * Thank You for voting for us and spreading the word about our little shop!

Since our dear Samson's passing, our cat Tuesday has diligently been greeting Steve and me at the door when we return home... but it's just not the same. We both agreed it was time to bring a new pooch into our home.

Sticking with our love of dogs that have big hearts, personalities and short legs... we decided that a Basset Hound would be a perfect match. And with the help of Petfinder.com and the Ohio Basset Rescue we are now the proud parents of 3 year old Gus! (click on the link for more funny photos of goofy Guster)

talented artists

Cherie Haney

Meet Cherie Haney of Ann Arbor, Michigan. She pierces through metal with a plasma cutter nearly as fast as she can draw on paper when she creates her playful Shadow Charms.

Her path to becoming an artist began in a high school band class when she started playing the French horn only to realize that she wasn't musically talented at all. What she came to realize was that she was attracted to the shiny metal and rolling curves of the instrument and wondered how it was made. She quickly dropped band and enrolled in metal arts where she found her true passion.(click on the link to see more)

Of course, feel free to forward our fun-filled enews to your favorite gift-givin’ gals and deal lovin’ divas. We hope our tid-bits of inspiration made your day brighter.
