Carla Geraghty

Meet Carla Geraghty of Serendipity Glass Studio in California. She creates delightful little vases that are bound to cheer up any window, mirror or refrigerator. A portion of her story reads, "I found serendipity to be the perfect name for my glass studio as it was a fortunate accident I stumbled upon the art of glass. Soon after I began stained glass, I branched out to fused glass. After much experimentation I serendipitously created a fused glass vase which has become my signature.”

Enjoy 15% off her pieces NOW through March on the website AND at both the stores. Click on the link above to view the products we have available on-line.

“Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.”

-Picasso

This is one of Carla’s favorite quotes and I believe it rings true.

what's cookin'?

homemade mac & cheese

I don't know about you, but this frigid business gets pretty tiring come early March (as I'm typing with my feet firmly planted on a heating pad). But there's nothing like a delicious dish of homemade mac and cheese to warm my hands and heart... yummmmm!

MAKES:4 to 6 servings
PREP: 15 minutes
COOK: 40 minutes

1 (8-ounce) package dried elbow macaroni or favorite pasta (about 2 1/4 cups, uncooked)
1/4 cup (4 tablespoons) butter
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
2 cups milk
1 tablespoon whole-grain Dijon mustard
1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
1/4 teaspoon hot sauce
1 (8-ounce) package shredded sharp Cheddar cheese (about 2 cups)
2 tablespoons grated Parmigiano-Reggiano (optional)
Toppings (optional):
1/2 cup fresh breadcrumbs
2 tablespoons butter, melted

1. Preheat oven to 350°.

2. Cook macaroni according to package directions. Drain and set aside. Melt butter in a large heavy saucepan over low heat; add flour, stirring until smooth. Cook 3 to 5 minutes, stirring constantly. Turn heat to medium; gradually whisk in milk, and cook over medium heat, stirring or whisking constantly until thickened, about 10 minutes. Stir in pasta, mustard, and next 4 ingredients, stirring just until cheese begins to melt.

3. Pour pasta mixture into a lightly greased 13- x 9 inch baking dish. Sprinkle with Parmigiano-Reggiano or more Cheddar. If desired, top with fresh breadcrumbs, and drizzle evenly with melted butter.

4. Bake, uncovered, at 350° for 25 minutes or until bubbly and golden. Let stand 5 minutes before serving.

review

Mika

Need a little lift to your day? Just click on this link and hit play, BUT I want to warn you, Mika makes some pretty infectious tunes and the chorus of Lollipop will be most likely be in your head all day long.

A music review reads, "Life In Cartoon Motion is the debut album of British singer Mika. Formally known as Mica Penniman, the singer and composer sounds like a cross between Freddie Mercury and George Michael. With an incredible range, reaching up into Alvin and the Chipmunks territory (seriously), Mika sensationalizes this jubilant album, making it strangely addictive.
The album presents a balanced mix of pop, pop-rock and pop-glam rock--it’s really poppy! Put simply, it’s like children’s music on ecstasy. Life In Cartoon Motion is undeniably catchy, and walks a fine line between brilliance and utter annoyance." - Tom Patrick

cute overload

One of the reasons why catching fireflies is looking so spring-tastic lately is because of all the super cute bunny & chick photos plastered over our pretty pastel magnet boards. These adorable pics are just a small sampling of the photos (and videos) you can view on cute overload... appropriately named to say the least. It's the perfect place to visit if you need to add a little 'oooohh or awwwe' to your day.

savvy gift ideas

wine wafers $8.75 (on sale for $6.56 this month)

These are one of my favorite finds this year because I think they make the perfect hostess gift with a bottle of wine. These gourmet wafers were first introduced in 1640 as a treat for the rich and famous. Early wafers were baked between waffle-like plates imprinted with the likeness of the man who would soon become Bohemia's patron saint. The wafers are light, low fat, and delicious.

How to enjoy these delicious wafers? First, pour a glass of your favorite wine.
Second, take a large bite of the wine wafer. Third, take a small sip of wine then swallow.

They’re available in lemon-vanilla for white wines and mocha-chocolate for red wines.

Masha D'yans

Meet Masha D'yans, a native of St. Petersburg, Russia. She creates magical watercolor images that transport you to a fairytale-like world.

Her bio reads, "Masha moved to the U.S. when she was 14. After high school, which was spent following her artistic muse, she gained admission to the fine arts program at Cooper Union for The Advancement of Science and Art in New York where she studied painting, printmaking and graphic design.

Feeling that so much art was lost in commerce, and, well, because she wanted to do what she loved, in 2002 Masha launched a greeting card company based on her own watercolors. Her playful, sensitive, colorful and tactile painting style draws on a plethora of inspirations including fashion, animation, calligraphy, Japanese art, nature and, of course, Russian fairy tales. Whimsical and sophisticated, her themes are evocative of a child's imagination: euphoric abandon, everyday mystery, and the beauty of imperfection."
